Overview
Writer/director Abbas Mohammad Ayyoubi’s Parvana (The Butterfly) was completed during 2022 in Berlin, Germany.
Production
Filmed in 4K Raw on a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera using Canon cine glass by DOP/operator Gareth Stack, the footage was later delivered in Black Magic film log format for editing with independently recorded audio tracks.
Post Production
What followed next was the process of generating subtitled rushes. This would later help create polished-English subtitles to match the film’s main dialogue of Persian and other extra Afghan-specific dialects.
With an initial first cut now complete, edits further were refined by working closely with the film’s director Abbas Mohammad Ayyoubi in Berlin. Once complete, the subsequent grading and audio treatments were handled by the film’s DOP, Gareth Stack, concluding with a crew-and-friends premiere in the following weeks afterwards.
Distribution
With a DLP and other formats now created by the producers, Parvana (The Butterly) is currently pending distribution and screenings at international film festivals.
