Overview

Stephen Thompson is a multi-disciplined actor, musician and model. Looking for a refreshed showreel that focussed mainly on his acting credits, we set about reimagining his reel.

Pre-production

Known for his distinctive features it was important to make sure the showreel looked stylish yet purposeful. 

A key part in any showreel is assessing the potential of the clips. By carefully ranking them in priority for the intended impression, you can create a decent running order. Working for multiple sources, including tape, video files and DVD’s we conformed all the footage to have the same appearance. As a result, by creating a similar tonality, the clips glide into one another, making for a seamless showreel.

Finally, the end credit screen arrives with Stephen’s name and principal contact details. If done correctly, this full-stop should that gently jar the viewer out of the moment and leave them wanting more.

Post Production

Working within DaVinci Resolve’s Fairlight module we could get milli-second accurate cuts to enhance the smoothness of the editing. 

Recutting focussed mainly on the central section with his appearance in the Lionsgate feature film ‘Exposed’. With his scenes relegated to the beginning and the ending of the film, we recut the picture and created a new sound mix to bring both scenes together in a logical manner to maximise Stephen’s screen time.

With only a final light grade to be done for the benefit of the showreel, the work was complete. Rendered out in a variety of different formats, Stephen’s acting-orientated reel was ready to be distributed.

With such a strong, impactful foundation it will also be relatively easy to add more work as Stephen’s career progresses.
