Vatnajökull Surf Recon

Vatnajökull, Iceland

Overview

In advance of a world record-breaking attempt by disabled snow kiting team ‘4 People 6 Legs’to traverse the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland, we took a prototype snow kite buggy for testing and evaluation.

Pre-production

Shooting on a mixture of the devices (Go Pro, DSLR and other cameras) we set about capturing the atmosphere of the trip. Filming in such harsh terrain, it enabled us to see which video devices would be able to stand up to the freezing temperatures of the glacier.

Production

Documenting the arrival in Reykjavik airport, shopping for provisions, and driving through the lava fields in modified Land Rovers, a combination of different angles and techniques including time-lapse were used to get across the feel of the expedition. Once the snow buggy testing was completed, the more (serious) business of snowkiting set in.

Post Production

Working with mixed media in differing resolutions (720p and 1080p), all of the footage was brought together and given an extra sound effects track to supplement the music chosen.
